For the convenience of my customers, I maintain a small group of pianos, both grands and uprights, that are available for short and long term rentals.
People find renting more convenient than buying in a variety of situations. Here are a few examples:
Parents whose kids are beginning lessons and who prefer not to spend a lot on buying a piano until they are sure the child has an ongoing interest in piano.
Adult piano students, coming back to the piano after some years, who are initially just interested in testing the waters to see how much they'll enjoy it before making a longer commitment and buying their own piano.
University students who don't have time to waste sitting in the practice room hallways, waiting for a piano to become available, and who would like to have a piano at home, but who don't want the hassle of owning one, what with moving at the end of each school year, etc.
Professionals from other locales on temporary job assignments in this area.
Special events, such as weddings, corporate events, concerts, parties, bar mitzvahs, funerals, etc.

Piano rentals for all occasions
Costs for a long term rental generally range from $70/mo to $150/mo for an upright and $90/mo to $800/mo for a grand, depending on the size of the instrument, brand, etc. Delivery and pickup of piano are charged separately. A typical move in the Boulder and Denver area of Colorado might cost between $150 and $250, depending on the distance involved, complexity of the move, number of stairs, etc.
Short term rentals for special events cost more, since the rental fee, tuning fee, and round-trip delivery are all included in the overall cost. A one-day rental for an upright starts at $500, and a one-day rental of a baby grand starts at $650.
